Standing at the edge of the world, looking into your eyes in the great distance

Always drawn to the part of you, that moves the part me, to this place so close to the ocean and stars

I have always felt you in my heart, despite your absence in my physical space and consciousness

Little time is spent wondering, however, where you are, or why you still remain between the horizon and where the ocean meets the sand

I will not rearrange my plans and change for you

Because I would not ask you to do the same

A man’s visions and missions are like a heat signature forged to his being, releasing an energy that only certain souls can perceive and endure

Certainty is not of place and time, rather commitment of heart and mind

The decision to bear the blessing and burden of pursuing your dreams and full potential of your abilities

When considering needs, a certain type of man needs both less and more

Less material, but miles and mountains more of everything else

Experiences, friendships, smiles, laughs, goals, sweat, responsibilities, and love

Love is in all things despite our desire for it to be fulfilled in one

A fool trades that which he loves, for that which he thinks he needs

Music in my heart reminds me of the journey both long, adventurous, and fulfilling before me

My skin and bones will fail before my heart and mind

I will conquer fear with hope, and not be deterred but motivated by struggle and strife

Celebrate adversity with apparent freedom and the unbounded possibility it encourages

Focus amidst thunder and lightning, fixate your eyes on tangible feats through pouring rain

Pain is proof of your desire to achieve

Belief brings the broken and beaten, back to life

Discover what it is you love about yourself, before you seek it in the world

Move yourself and embrace the reciprocal movement of inspiration from others

Remember the stars you gazed upon as a child, and never voluntarily tame your soul, if it was created wild.

The music sings to my defeated cells

They will never perish, but the soul and spirit in words sung from the depth of a passionate heart infuse life

Frustration wears on the weary, but clearly this no tragedy

Hope whistles the tune of sweet summer love under blue sky in the afternoon

Words will their way into my heart and birth belief as it were intended from the start

Cadence calms a mind that tires a soul from running from sea to shore

Rhythm reminds to reminisce and rejoice over the mountains we have stood atop

Harmony helps hold on to the notion of peace, love, and balance

Each new song announces another chance to turn it all around, or be thankful for progress made

A smile ensues when even the Blues beckon for good news just around the corner

Music is my moral muse and in its wonder lies the blessing to never have to choose.

The wind will blow whether or not we’re here to know
The trees will grow despite our pervading imprint and waste
The stars will shine even if only to illuminate the earth below, that is not yours, or mine
Fish will swim in spite of our negligent efforts to harvest and instill grim
Birds will fly high even if such great heights scare the likes of you and I
The sea will roar with life but never forget the rivers damned, that fill it no more
Children will dream, run and play, all the while fear silhouettes the land and hope for natural wonders decay
Singers will sing songs of neglect, struggle, triumph and jubilation while honest care for some remains a reluctant hesitation
Surgeons will save the lives of strangers yet neglect the ones they are bound to by the sacrament of love
Nations will pray to heavens above while their people suffer below
The entitled will hide smiling behind their subsequent titles, certain their salary alleviates their duty, to deviate from their plug-and-play 60-hour work week
The weak diminish and pray to God to finish the suffering he started at their conception
Tears run dry while crowds clouds cry, showering use in the waste we refuse to reduce
Out mother nature struggles for breath while our ignorance tightens the noose
Species dissolve while ego and manifested need discard them with a bureaucratic excuse
Love fuels hope to adapt and prevail, but greed foreshadows, it may be to no avail
The delicate balance of the universe grows weak, while we indulge in bliss, dream, and sleep.

Schlereth before a spring training game versus the Phillies By Eric Hampton

Undoubtedly one of the biggest characters in the Tiger clubhouse, 25-year-old Daniel Schlereth is a two-pitch-pitcher (fastball and curve) that Detroit fans have grown to depend on in the late innings, since being from the Diamondbacks along with Max Scherzer, in 2009.

“Detroit fans are great, everyone in here will tell you that,” Schlereth said. “They show up every game and are extremely supportive. They love their sports and back their teams. It’s really all you can ask for.”

Son of former NFL guard and current ESPN analyst Mark Schlereth, the lefty tells himself one thing to calm down when he is struggling on the mound:

“Slow down, that’s it. If I’m having a bad day it’s because I’m rushing,” the native of Anchorage, Alas. told Sportz Detroit Magazine.

When he’s not playing baseball, Schlereth like many Alaskans seeks adventure in the great outdoors.

“I love to fish and hunt, oh jees, if I had to pick, I’ve been fishing longer, so fishing,” Schlereth said. ”I caught a 55-pound King Salmon when I was eight.”

On off days Schlereth and Porcello head north for some R and R.

“Me and Ricky go to the AuSable River with a guide, it’s pretty cool,” Schlereth said.

During his senior year at Highlands Ranch High School in Colora., Schlereth struck out a school record 19 batters in a single game.

In a 2011 season full of memorable games, one stands out from the rest for the former high school QB:

“Beating New York, Game 5, in New York… that’s the greatest baseball achievement I’ve had. It’s sweet because their fans are so vulgar. One of the reasons you want to beat them is because their fans are terrible, especially being in the bullpen listening to them all day,” Schlereth said.

Schlereth broke the school rushing record in a single season by a QB and had the longest run from scrimmage in school history, 96 yards. He was named Colorado Gatorade Offensive Player of the Year his senior season.

If magic will be made in 2012, it stems from a collective appreciation and team mentality in the clubhouse.

“This team, great guys, staff of coaches, makes it really fun to beat a franchise like New York because everyone here deserved it,” Schlereth said.

Given the opportunity to meet any musician, living or dead, the Alaskan offered icons from both rock and country:

“Jonathan Davis from Korn or George Straight,” Schlereth said.

Needing one out, with bases loaded, late, there is only batter the lefty would rather not see:

“Robinson Cano. I’m not scared to face him, I just don’t want to,” a grinning Schlereth said.

Kevin favorite three musical acts are The Avett Brothers, Jack Johnson, and Mumford and Sons.

I’m so glad she’s my little girl
Across universes we travel to another world
Free from little tricks, she smiles and my heart ticks, I love her, and I’m going to let her know

No longer sitting on my hands, her love makes me want to dance, I love her, can’t wait to kiss her on the lips
Walking down the street, skipping to her beat, the sun smiles on our love and I thank it
Wiggling in my chair, long blonde shaggy hair, she loves me, and I feel fine

She’s walking down the street, hair flowing to her feet, I love her
Sun dress and sweet caress, yellow daisies and pigtails
Holding hands and locking lips, eyes drawn to her swaying hips, she loves me, and she’s mine
Good Signs in her eyes, heart full of love without lies, I love her, and I’m hers

Happy on our feet, silly in our seats, to love is divine
Wild in our hearts, chance not left to dealt cards, blessed mid-afternoon under a single-shining-star
Smiling for one, an album just begun, I love her, and I feel fine.

The man in me is free and will always be

The music in the man is his right hand that lifts him each time he falls

Before all great men fly they must learn to crawl

Hope is a beacon of light so bright it makes even the North Star blush at sight

Love will bring ruin to the darkness that propels the wretched men and the wicked with whom they’ve fell

Vulnerability shall will the righteous towards the path of most resistance and enlist the fervent passion to endure the distance

Pain and struggle is the bubble we must burst in order for us to believe dreaming works

Breath of air conditions the soul like a salty ocean breeze in the morning through unkempt shaggy hair

Just Living on Caffeine, Dreams and Love is the title of my first memoirs. It embodies my vision, hustle, shortness of breath, passion, dreams, and triumph as an exceptional leader and human being. It will layout my philosophy, struggle. and mission statement as a victor and romantic.

I intend to change the world and the degree to which people mistreat one another. My mission will be fulfilled through living, giving, writing, leading, learning and inspiring.

But it wasn’t meant to be

Like a ballad false start – I released you from me

And in your place a kingdom of realized dreams will be raised

Like infinite pieces of the perfect and perpetual-puzzle you are replaced

It is absurd that even great men trade away their visions like they are commodities that can be bought and sold like brick, mortar and gold

Vision is without a price

It spreads exponentially in my veins like a horse running wild and free, unknowing of the burden of reins, dictating what it can and cannot be

Moments at a time, mountains are moved by men that shiver, because of the strength delivered, as self-manifested chills quiver, as a tear releases from their eye simultaneously as they transcend all fears in ascension towards the sky, where the most noble of souls have gone to rest once they die

Purpose cannot be taught or learned, it is yearned for as the clock of a man turns and finitude signifies a blessing in disguise

Our hearts beat like the hand of a clock, but dissimilar to time, our hearts will expire, thus we must discover the fire that enables us to burn

The human-spirit commands awe and inspiration, I continue to be baffled by those who fear it, its energy infuses life in all those that are near it

Like darkness to light, there is a better way for which all men need to fight

Apathy will drown the world like a tsunami in the night

The end grows closer every second we lose sight of one-another and the love we must employ if we intend to create and not destroy

Your heart beats just like mine

Passion-filled-purpose will flood your neurotransmitters, igniting the phenomena of chills in your spine: if you find yourself moved, this is a good sign.

Days slip away yet your resin remains

Your absence runs heavy throughout my veins

It is growing apparent that the days apart will not get easier but more difficult

I miss your scent and your eyes brown like the earth

If it brings me closer to you I will fall to my knees on a wooden pew before god in church

I believe in my heart you long for my touch, gaze, and smile

Your presence and light have bestowed in me a chemical process that has been absent a while

My heart beats faster when you’re on my mind

It appears my mind will runs circles around my heavy heart this time

Every melodious tune sings of you

What purpose a compass with directions North, South, East, and West, If they bring me no closer to you and the precious heart in your chest?

Some men are weighed down by gravity and pressure

Upon my passing I ask that it be by my love that I am measured

From inside out versus head to toe

I miss you more than perhaps I ought let you know

You have instilled within me a need

The need to breathe your love and life

The comfort of a gentle caress

The thrill and fear of not knowing what to expect

My master plan has been sliced and diced

You will always be the temptress for whom I’m enticed

For better or worse my DNA has been dusted with your light

Days grow short but the road to you long

I will write you a song and sing it to myself to endure

I will fight my angst with cloak and dagger, but you are the only cure to the latter.

I see your eyes

Even on the darkest of nights

They light the world

Take my soul to new heights

Dismiss my ambitions

Confess that my admissions

May have been upon a shooting star

That I knew could but never would take me far

But with your glow on this cloud covered night

I see even the faintest of moons shine when the stars are right

The sun, moon, and earth align

Call me a fool for never imagining a girl so fine

But clearly fate has intertwined

I succumb to the allusion of my volunteered confusion

Friend or lover?

Guilty of loving her

Hung on a cross

A fine line to cross

It will always be her loss

It will always be my loss

Like a rolling stone that will not collect moss

Unburdened by the ways of the heart

Free to dismiss

Free from the pleasure of a kiss

From the outside in how couldn’t she resist?

Painfully obvious

Sinfully simple

A boy who refuses to comprehend

Capable, yet seeing it to the end

Willingly suffering

Sufferingly willing

A dull drill that keeps drilling

Shattering hope

The numbing effect of dope

Persistent in the face of resistance

Romantic despite idealism

Where is the origin of such a curse?

Haunted by the image of a man on the cross– never appearing in church

Only in plain sight does he erode

A heart exponentially beating till it explodes

A love like music without notes

Harmony in the midst of chaos

A symphony of exhausted repetition

Only to be slowed by a petition

From the world because it’s seen enough

Sick of the senility

No longer amused by the evasion of reality

Face the facts

He never could

Or maybe just never would

Like hammering a nail to wood

Until he is out of breath

Perhaps then the conclusion of the quarrelsome organ in his chest

From the beginning it was never like the rest

It needed to be heard

Ignored the telltale signs of even bold words

A lifetime infected by the snooze button

Never asleep, never awake, always one breath from losing something

Holding onto too much

Lacking a reflection to witness such blush

Born with too much blood to gush

How is that all he sought and lacked was her touch?

Desperately committed

For far less things men have been committed

Beyond an Achilles heel that needs to be admitted

If this isn’t proof then there is none

Starring down the barrel of a gun

Love or loss

A fine line to cross

A rolling stone without moss

A tear without moisture

Heart, without a beat

Only when stars aligned could be blessed to meet

Yet here I am

Time and time again

It is fact; my romantic madness has no end

A painful inability to comprehend godsend

Because without experience there is only delirious

Certainly a man should be weary of this

But I am that man

And he is me

Come tomorrow I know not where he will be

Yet I am willing and waiting to see

Like an inmate behind bars with the option to be free.
