My smile is with me when I walk these streets

My smile is with me with every fresh smiling face I meet

Happiness cannot be denied despite each challenge I greet

Happiness flows through my long blonde shaggy hair down to my feet

Life cannot be lived without burden

But I will find my time to shine in the sun that is certain

Life is an opportunity to create, connect, and conceive

Dreams, life, love and peace

If the situation calls for it I will drop to my knees

We all can use a helping hand and never be too proud to ask please

While none of our roads are certain, they are dependent on belief

In ourselves, in each other, in a joker, and in a thief

Today without tomorrow is like lust without love to one day borrow

But love without lust, will be revealed as yet another distant memory left in the dust

We find our way with and through the people we love

We find ourselves often without an inkling of guidance from above

If a single soul loves you in this life you are never alone

When doubt begins to consume you think of the boy or girl from whom you’ve grown

I am only alone if I convince myself to be

Each new day is only a burden if I choose not to be free

Obligation, debt and doubt will blind you if you wish not to see

Take a chance, ask a girl to dance, trade a skeptics doubt for a childlike romance

My smile is with me when I look her in the eyes

My smile is with me despite pouring rain and dark skies

Happiness is one natural resource for which they can never raise the price

I see your eyes

Even on the darkest of nights

They light the world

Take my soul to new heights

Dismiss my ambitions

Confess that my admissions

May have been upon a shooting star

That I knew could but never would take me far

But with your glow on this cloud covered night

I see even the faintest of moons shine when the stars are right

The sun, moon, and earth align

Call me a fool for never imagining a girl so fine

But clearly fate has intertwined

And despite an eternity of darkness your light has shined

It mirrors my intentions

Your spirit is worth a mention

Save me from despair

The cure to suffering; with you I want to share

The answer

A simple potion

To dismiss the notion

That ill will and discontent will be any form of godsend

Blessed will and consideration

If only for the duration

Of these words

On this night

Believe that even the weakest of the noble souls is willing to fight

For their heart

For their mind

For the miles and miles of passion lost in time

Rock me to sleep each night

Wake up to round two; is an unreal sight

On top of me you climb

Ready to blow my mind

My heart beats faster

We are a beautiful disaster

Colliding with one another in lust; with your body to master

Learn, cherish, squeeze close

It’s you I want the most

Every second

Ever hour

Instill in me the power

To believe

To become

I want to be your someone

In you I enter

Warm, full of life to surrender

Myself to you

These feelings true

Under a sky blue

On a blanket on a picnic with you

Amongst nature

It’s in my nature

To pain for your pleasure

A man wishing to be measured

By the size of his heart

What you fell for from the start

Without site

Only sound

Rolling around with you on the ground

Arms pinned down

Hands above your head

We have the world as our bed

Our landscape

Our horizon

In ecstasy with you under the sun rising

Another day has gone by
everything that could go wrong, has
the overwhelming physical and emotional demand which you undergo
in the long race of life will turn you slow
escalating to the point where you simply cannot take a moment more
when you’d prefer nothing more than to drop dead and hit the floor
But then you see a rare ray of sun from above
after walking into the room, you see her smile that you love
the one that somehow you seemed to forget
the one for whom missed opportunities have become regret
In an instant, the world’s weight is lifted
and it occurs to you that the sun does shine even on the darkest of days
often in the most mysterious ways

So please may I ask of you one thing?
never shed that smile from your face
the one that represents impenetrable grace

a smile that transcends a man to a far better place
please, do not let your smile slip away
Because if it escapes
on that next dreadful day
when I turn to you
to find a rare ray of light in a pure place
and when I look I do not find

I will become lost in the darkness that can be the absence of your smile
What will you say?
when you see me fall
on that dreadful day
when all I asked for
was a smile on your face.

When I look into your eyes
I see everything inside of you
I can see your past
everything that you have been through
I see a story of a girl
who in my story
is the sun that comes up everyday
sharing its beauty upon the world in the purest way
at the end of the day
when you have set
and then disappeared away
like the earth
I am filled with darkness
I try and fall asleep through an entire night
but your absence for just an instant brings turns me contrite
all I can do is think how I miss you
suddenly and seemingly love becomes the only issue
but I have grown to depend on it
the rise of you each and every day
when you shine your love and beauty upon me like spring skies of May
I lay here victim of your existence and the night and pray
thinking of when you will  once again warm me with your ray
all that I can say
is won’t you once again rise for me and blow me away?

Close your eyes

She’s still there

The long flowing brown hair

You look away

But can’t help to stare

You think of talking to her

But you don’t dare

You try and listen to music

But you hear her voice

Are you making a choice?

Or is it making you?

What is that I feel?

Is it real?

I don’t always talk to her

Just seeing if she will talk to me

I avoid her

Seeing if she will try and see

I lie awake in bed

How did this girl get into my head?

Doesn’t my heart listen to anything that is said?

The lights all flashing red

Yet I close my eyes

And she is still there

Doesn’t seem so fair

She might not even care

Could anything fire a flare?

Does she ever fight not to stare?

Or is this simply my problem to bear?

About to give up

A gust of wind through your hair

Giving you the chills

And in it you see all the thrills

A high not equaled by any amount of pills

You look to the sun

To find it shines on just one

Maybe once it is dark

I can escape my heart

But then the moon fills the sky

And the stars own the night

There’s no sense to fight

Because when you close your eyes

The girl you see is the one thing that’s right

Let’s get together and share some love
Let’s come together and shine with light from above
We are the ones who can change the world
We are the ones free to fly like birds
Today is the day we realize our dreams
Today is the day we grow strong like trees
Together we stand in the face of the status quo
Together we stand with no bound upon the limits we go
We are each others greatest strength
The beat of a determined heart knows no length
Through both peaks and valleys we shall rise and fall
Together we stand, throughout it all
Together we rise, every time we fall
With each new day the sun rises
The wicked in the world will present itself in different disguises
We can be tempted to succumb to darkness and despair
We can be tempted to unwind without a single care
Triumph is found basking breathless under a summer sun
Triumph is found knowing our climb up this mountain has just begun
Will you not rise if there is still but a breath in your bones?
Will you not rise in the face of an eternity spent alone?
Join your brothers and sisters in battle
Join your brothers and sister’s shadow
The enemy lies within
The enemy’s eyes disguise a grin
The dividing line between good and evil is not sin
It is hope
It is belief
It is an emptiness replaced with blood, sweat, tears and faith
We must be willing to will for one another
We must be willing to bleed for a brother
We will win, and we will lose, but it remains each other that we must choose
We will love, and we will hate, but it remains the ego that we must cut loose
Our hope is in tomorrow’s horizon
Our hope, comes with the sun rising
My hope is you
And your hope is me
Give in to belief, and alas see what the world made possible for you and me.

When she smiles under the sun
I know this game of love has begun
So playful, so sweet
Like an afternoon treat
Dancing like a child
Free and beautiful with style
Eyes that twinkle like a shooting star
In a single stare, recognition of a heart that reaches distances far
She sips her lemonade while my mind processes that I have it made
I don’t need to be her king
Simply make her smile
Let us let loose under a summer sky
Let us give in and believe free of a skeptic’s why
Originally children of god in a garden
Only with human weakness did our hearts harden
Sickness, evil and pain, are all part of the game
But a portion is hardly a degradation of the whole
Love and living seeks a greater goal
The sun, sky, stars and moon
Gifts from the gods
Not to be realized but celebrated on this fine afternoon.

Once more I find myself starring into the Jamaican horizon

Cotton candy blue and pink I fix my eyes on

I imagine heaven must look a bit like this

As if god visited the Caribbean for a day, and blessed it with a kiss

Certain my soul will remain young; so long each year I don’t miss

The place where rainbows form a halo above the sun

Where Red Stripe flows like water and the rum never seizes to run

Upon my return to this treasured land, it is both new and familiar faces that make it grand

Rocks upon the breaking waves

Love of something better, love of something bigger under the sun’s rays

Like children of Eden, we swim, we dance, and we play

In such moments it is so prevalent why Mr. Marley would ever say:

“Don’t worry, about a thing, ‘cause every little thing, is going be alright”

I look around at an impoverished nation

Yet there is no notion of suffering

Only peace, love, and happiness

It is for these reasons I will always return to this place

The heart of Jamaica is found on every citizen’s face

Warm eyes, brimming smiles

An ecstasy most have not tasted in a while

The meaning of life is the meaning of happiness

It most certainly runs wild in the Rasta’ way

It is not sold at Wal-Mart; there is no dollar amount for which you can pay

From toes to finger to tips

Eyelashes to smiling lips

Electricity fuels a passionate people

Like three little birds, to be wed in a steeple

They sing, they dance, they love, and romance

I am a better man because of this place

Even despite my wasted wicked ways

I leave refreshed, reminded of my best, and the man I wish to be

Because that man is me; it sometimes just takes a change of perspective to see

This life is the life I wish to lead

And those I share it with I most definitely need

Places without people are like love without loss

I hold you all close, for now and for always

From the rocks I stare heaven in the eyes

She smiles, and gives me a wink

Like a treasure destined to sink

No man alone could bare such beauty

It belongs to the Earth, stars, and sea

I love you Jamaica, you’ve always been good to me.

Put out the fire

Or else be inspired

Prepared to be amazed

Knocked into a daze

Beseeching no praise

Never elusive of the sun’s rays

Shinning bright

Your smile tonight

Under the fading stars of the universe

Remember her like she’s your first

Freeing a man of all that is cursed

Such exponential emotion cannot be rehearsed

Slowed-down or deterred

It runs wild

Limitless and free

Only me, you, a world of possibility

Heavens and Earth

Dare contemplate how much a beloved heart is worth

A hand held

A smile returned

A kiss earned

A fire burned

All night

Out of sight

Finally, everything could be alright

It might just

It just may

On my mind– when I woke today

Here I sit

But with you I think

A bit uneasy to even blink

For if I do

And vanish you may

There is no religion that could inspire me to pray

So blink– I will not

My eyes, kept frozen on the spot

Which you stand

Where you lie

Walking away with the heart of another guy

Blessed perhaps

Blessed, we’ll see

Hold your breath, until you can see

Where we stand, where we lie

Under yet another, star-filled sky

And when you breathe

I’ll kiss your lips

And if you ask me not to leave

Let us be floating without bound, in serendipitous bliss.

Driving through another gray filled day
Moisture in the air- soon winter will be stored away
For another year, three seasons past, spring you have returned, restored so fast
With it comes everything and nothing
New growth in the air
Patterned routines which I seem to no longer care
Calendar days pass
Like turning a page
Another year passed, the coming of age
The coming of wealth, a realized importance of health
A hope for a flicker from a dark corner
Light in loom of darkness
Silhouette inside the sun
Rising thoughts of possibilities, many efforts undone
Not too much longer, soothing crescents atop waves to come
A yearning within my soul so deep
The contrast of tasting heaven, or being limited to just a peek
I have tasted and taken a bit of each in my time
Yet remain hungry and curious with just hopes as to what I shall find
There is no question, to whether I look
There is no answer, to which path I ought to have took
I am here now, and certain of such
There will always be places I wished my reach had touched
Wish I will, and wish I wont, a dreamer, a realist, a do and a don’t
Which are you? If either or
I cannot be black or white, of that I’m sure
My essence lies, where the ocean meets the horizon
My purpose only to be found, in the depths of the sea diving
Like a treasure it lies, perhaps never to be found
Like a human it dies, anchored so heavily to the ground
Gravity or pressure, perhaps the means by which all greatness is measured
To sink or to swim, too bright, or too dim
Fading colors combine within this twilight filled night
To be or not to be, greatness to a blind-man is just out of sight.

They say I’m breaking, can’t take a step without shaking

Making this life of mine whatever I can

No certain path or lay of land

Survival, to strive for revival

Happiness is my only direction

I long for the days of open road and the reflection of the sun on my face

Leaving this place

Not because I don’t love it

Not because it hasn’t been good to me

Not because of anything at all

I wish for more

I wish for my place in this order of isolated events called progression

Something has always been missing

I have grown comfortably numb

Some would be content with this life of mine

But I seek the flavor of another wine

Perhaps one found in the hills of  the West

I cannot know if I do no not test

Lately, the fruits of life have left me

Surely only I am to blame

Time to shed my name

Leave my face and known acquaintances behind

The open road with a cool summer breeze by my side

A horizon not fading, rather growing forever wide

It calls me to come

I am not the first and I will not be the last

But what if my story doesn’t come to pass in this land?

Am I not crippled if I let my wonder seize?

Have I not surrendered if I even feel the need to ask please?

I answer to none at this very moment in my life

Why not enjoy the freedom that comes with such disposition?

A simple transition, a simple heart that’s been wishing

For a change, for a chance, for perhaps anything at all

Is it not a man’s mission, to go fishing for his soul left behind?

Deep beneath the ocean’s surface, one marvels at what he can find

This may not be my time, but who’s to say it will ever come?

These day to day operations might be enough for some

But the answers I seek do not flow down this familiar creek

They may not be out there, but isn’t it worth a look?

Would you not turn through every page in a book?

Even if it was just to find that where you were is just where you needed to be?

I wake each day mostly content, happy with where my life has taken be despite others conjecture

But I’ve given my self permission for it to be not enough

I’ve recognized I can start over though it will be tough

We can never really start over

Rather turn the page on another chapter of our days

Drawn to the sun’s outstretched and life filled rays

I will take the first step and begin to listen

And when the day comes it is unlikely I will be missing

A chance to lose myself in a great escape soul-fishing.
